How to Measure

Two minutes with a tape measure saves most of the guessing — and because our sized pieces are made to order, choosing right the first time matters more here than it does elsewhere.

The one trick worth knowing

Do not measure yourself. Measure a garment you already own and love the fit of, lay it flat, and match those numbers to the chart on the product page. Body measurements tell you your size; a favourite garment tells you your fit, which is the thing you actually want to repeat.

How to take each measurement

Lay the garment flat on a hard surface. Smooth it out. Do not stretch it.

  • Chest / bust — measure straight across, armpit to armpit, then double it.
  • Length — from the highest point of the shoulder straight down to the hem.
  • Sleeve — from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
  • Waist — straight across the narrowest point, then double it.
  • Hip — straight across the widest point below the waist, then double it.

Reading the chart

Every sized product page carries its own chart in inches. Different pieces are cut differently, so a size on one item is not a promise about another — always check the chart on the page you are buying from.

Between two sizes?

As a rule, size up for anything you want to layer or wear loose, and stay true for anything fitted. If you are genuinely torn, email us before you order with the measurements of a garment that fits you well, and we will tell you which size to take. We would much rather spend five minutes on that than have you wait two weeks for something that does not fit.

Prints and frames

Print sizes are given in inches and match standard US frame sizes — 11×14, 16×20 and 18×24 — so a frame from any shop will fit without a custom mount.
